Artist's Statement: This photo was taken late afternoon in December 2007. This tiny Gothic church is called "Santa Maria della Spina". I happened across this spot when I got off at the wrong train station during a previous visit to Pisa. I was so taken with this scene that when I was in the area again, I made a special trip here to get a photo in good light. I removed some scaffolding on the right behind the church. The only other change I made to the original photo was to add a minimal simplifying effect which makes for an especially nice display on canvas or fine art paper.
